maybe it's hard to believe but it really happened ..... the hero of this story is not actually a hero but he is a very lucky man
Timothy ray brown was HIV positive patient , in 2007 he made a test in germany and the result make the HIV his least worries . The surprise was leukemia !!! , the doctor suggest hematopoitic stem cell transplant to treat the cancer . From 60 matching donors, they selected a [CCR5]-Ī32 homozygous sample (people with this genotype are very rare but they are naturally resistant to HIV) . the procedure was diffecult and timothy developed sepsis and pnemonia , the doctor gave him a 5 persent chance of survival , but he make it ... timothy cured from leukemia and the most interesting his HIV test was negative . he is now known as "berlin patient" , the only man who say's I used to have HIV , unfortunately this method is life threatening and not useful to treat every HIV patient .
the war against HIV virus is on going ... but the score is proudly one point for humans instead of zero
Nice article ..keep going
